Identify “your” players to specifically target

Form a draft strategy:

Decide which positions you will draft first

Determine when you will draft goalies

Develop backup options for each round

Decide whether to focus on a certain statistical category

Conduct mock drafts:

Analyze the results and adjust your strategy

Get used to the draft interface

Step 4: Participate in the draft

Have a backup device in case of technical issues

During the draft:

Keep an eye on your pick queue

Keep your player rankings handy

Mark the players already drafted

Keep an eye on other teams’ rosters

Adapt your strategy as the draft progresses

Don’t panic if you don’t get the player you want

Build a balanced roster:

Have all positions covered

Draw players from different real NHL teams

Consider the season schedule

Draw at least two reliable goalies

Find a balance between stars and up-and-comers

Step 5: Manage your team after Draft

Setting Up the Opening Roster:

Determine your opening week starting lineup

Consider the number of games each player has

Make sure all slots are filled

Bench players with suboptimal schedules

Managing the Roster Regularly:

Check your active players daily

Analyze your players’ stats

Move players between the lineup and the bench in a timely manner

Managing the Free Agent Market:

Regularly review available players

Look for players with growing stats

Keep an eye on players who have been promoted up the line

Be aware of players returning from injury

Don’t be afraid to give up your late draft picks

Offering and Accepting Trades:

Identify your strengths and weaknesses

Find teams with complementary needs

Make fair trades trade offers

Evaluate incoming offers without emotion

Take a long-term view when making trades

Step 6: Strategic Season Planning

Analyze your team weekly:

Assess player performance

Monitor performance trends

Adjust your lineup to changes in real hockey

Plan your schedule:

Analyze the number of games your players have per week

Pay attention to “easy” and “difficult” games for goalies

Plan substitutions for days with few games

Maximize the number of game days for your players

Mid-Term Strategy:

Assess performance trends of NHL teams

Consider upcoming trade deadlines

Stock up on players from teams with favorable playoff schedules

Get rid of players from teams that are losing their chances to make the playoffs
